Rare Swedish bench or sofa from the late 1700s. The sofa is a country house furniture from Ångermanland in Sweden. The sofa is very unusual, most likely the only one of its kind. It has its origin in the province Ångermanland and the area around the city Örnsköldsvik. According to old tales the carpenter’s name was Wallenberg. The sofa has a rich decor with hand carved wood decorations and onlays. Original paint.
We have known about this sofa since the 1970s and it only had two different owners for the whole duration of the 20th century. From the early 1900s until now it’s been in two different private collections. The paint has some distress with traces of use. Minor dry cracks – see pictures, but the frame is healthy and solid.
