Folk art trestle table, dining or work table from northern Sweden. The table is a genuine antique and made unusually sturdy and charming. The table top is thick and heavy, made from just 2 large boards of wood. Made by hand around the mid 1700s in pine and has never been painted. The underside of the table top has been levelled with an axe and in the whole construction there are no nails or screws.
Around the edge of the table top there are small round holes – these were used to put candles straight into the table top and provide light. The table has genuine distress with character and patina aplenty. There is a smaller loss of material at the edge of the table top – see picture. The colour of the pine has faded with time, therefore there are different visible tones in the wood. Original wedges underneath the table top. The width of the table top is 78.5 cm and 83.5 cm respectively.
