Painted folk art bowl from northern Sweden made during the early 1800s, around 1820. The bowl has an oval shape and has been hollowed out by hand from a single large piece of wood. Bowls like this were used in the household for preparing and storing food and are therefore rare to find preserved today.
This bowl has traces of original paint and the shapes of the flowers are just about visible. The time-worn patina show how much the bowl has been used. Being practical objects it’s not very often they are painted as paint was a luxury. Which means this bowl belonged to a wealthier household.
