Gustavian period corner cabinet with glass doors from Sweden made during the 1790s. The cabinet is made by hand in solid pine into two parts. Made during the transition period between the rococo and gustavian styles which can be seen in the curved rococo pediment and the classic, straight gustavian shape of the cabinet itself. Original glass doors to the upper cabinet which is unusual because glass was an expensive, luxury item during the late 1700s.
Many Swedish glass cabinets on the market today have later glass doors. However this cabinet is authentic and originally made with glass doors during the late 1700s. Old, original glass – one section of glass has a small crack down in one corner. The cabinet is dry scraped by hand down to the original paint. Original lock and key in functional condition.
The lower cabinet measures 102 cm tall, 114 cm across and the sides facing the walls are each 80 cm wide. The upper cabinet is 128 cm tall making the total height 230 cm.
