Rare folk art cabinet from northern Sweden made around 1790 to 1800. The cabinet is a country house furniture from the village Lockne in Jämtland in northern Sweden. This type of cabinet in this model was only made in that particular area and cannot be found anywhere else. This cabinet is truly a showstopper. Not only can the cabinet be traced to a very specific area and time but the overall appearance draws attention.
The paint is a strong green which not many pieces from this time are and it still has traces of the decoration paint at the front of the doors. In addition to that even the interior is decorated which is another very unusual thing to see. Lastly the craftsmanship is worth paying extra attention to. From the tall legs to the small details on the pillar between the doors and on to the profiled edges of the pediment. Summarised it has a subtle but confident elegance that has stood the test of time.
The cabinet is dry scraped by hand down to the original first layer of paint. The interior still has the original decoration paint. Healthy and solid pine frame with an older repair on the inside of the door by the lock. The lock is also of later origin but is in working condition along with the keys. The width is measure across the widest point, at the pediment.
